Her practice revolves around materiality and process, driven by a deep fascination for craftsmanship. She employs an experimental and practical approach and she explores the boundaries of the chosen material through the use of (un-)conventional techniques.
At the start of her design process the final outcome is left purposely undefined, and by engaging with the inherent qualities of the material, form and function emerge organically. During the creation of her objects the hands are guiding the maker, forming a dynamic relationship between the designer and the material.
Gaia aims for a balance between rawness and refinement in the finished product to display the beauty of materials. Gaia is not bonded to one material, but steel is often used in her practice.
